“You’re not a designer are you?”
The answer is, of course, “No. I am not a designer.”
I ‘do design’. I have designed everything from marketing assets, logos, e-books and their covers and of course full websites. I do most of my own design work, often without consultation and usually with great success.
I do not consider myself a designer. I think that that mindset is a disservice to qualified and skilled designers – the passionate visual artists – who make the web lovely to interact with.
I am a programmer.
I am a programmer who understands design. I use my knowledge of design principles to efficiently and effectively interface with design processes, tools and designers themselves in order to accomplish the goals of the project.
I am a programmer for the web.
I build websites using:
- javascript
- html
- css
- php
Primarily, I use the pre-built content management systems (CMS) WordPress and Drupal to create websites. I also build, static, non-database dependent websites. Simple. Sometimes, all you need is a simple page. Yeah, I can do that too.
I am a programmer who is always looking to expand her tool set. Currently, I am pursuing a AAS in Linux System Administration. When I have completed my degree, not only will I understand why good design is needed to provide the best user experience on a well functioning website, how to build that well functioning site but also how that site is being deployed, maintained and defended on the system it resides on.
I will be a ‘Web Master’. That is an old school term we used to denote someone who is qualified to take care of a website – front end and back end.
I am a programmer who builds and designs well functioning, beautiful websites. And soon, I will maintain the machine the site runs on.
That’s a web master.
Yes. I also write.
