I found this great little post while surfing yesterday nd thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention: LifeHack: Creating a website name
The post itself had a good little tidbit about using Band Name Maker as a great alternative to GoDaddy's name suggestion tool.
But what was really super was the second comment made to the post by nodomainsforsale

Avoidance of secondary markets is bad advice. A plethora of awesome brands are available at reasonable prices through leading marketplaces such as Afternic.com in the U.S. and Sedo.com in Europe.Secondary market place domains can be pricey. But once you've acquire the domain, it's yours to keep like any other. So if you need a high quality domain name and can afford the fee...
Companies don’t blink at shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars for building signs, stationary, business cards, brochures, print ads, ongoing online ads etc. but recoil in horror at the thought of spending $10,000 to permanently acquire a dynamic brand. How often do you hear people say ‘that is a great brand’ in comparison to ‘that is a great domain name’?Sound reasoning? I think so. A marketing campaign can live or die based on a name. Know your market, and know the value or your name in it.
The best domains are short, one or two words max. They are dot-coms. Their syntax is generally singular and not a gerund (no ‘ing’ endings). Now let us pause and evaluate how our existing domains meet those criteria.Excellent advice. Add to that, your name should be relevant to the project. Don't buy a sexy name that a consumer wont relate to your product or service just becasue it is a highly searched keyword or phrase. Building a good campaign on that reasoning may fail or be more costly in the long run.
